Air pollution is a well-known environmental factor of morbidity and mortality. Eliminating pollution is one of the policy areas at work in the European Green Deal (https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/fs_19_6729). In addition, air quality is directly related to the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) n°11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable (https://sdgs.un.org/goals/goal11) as well as n°13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts (https://sdgs.un.org/goals/goal13).
In the HERA project context, the impact on health of air pollution and related policies is linked to the Research Goal n°4 (https://www.heraresearcheu.eu/hera-research-goal-4): Improve HIA of environmental factors and promote intervention research.
ISGlobal, member of the HERA consortium, is working on the health impact assessment of air pollution. They published an article assessing the number of death which could be prevented each year by following WHO guidelines on air pollution. They also built an interactive website (https://isglobalranking.org/) where you can find information on your city’s air quality and its rank in a list of European cities.
